DENVER, CO - Today, COLOR Action Fund issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health:

“Not everyone is impacted equally when abortion is banned. We know that the burden falls hardest on people who already face systemic racism and discrimination. In spite of this, Latinas have been leading the charge for Reproductive Justice in Colorado. We protected our right to abortion here in the state by leading the passage of the Reproductive Health Equity Act with our Reproductive Justice majority in the state legislature. Now that the Supreme Court has cleared the way for bans across the country, we’ll continue to lead in building a future where reproductive healthcare is safe, accessible, and without shame.

We can’t allow politicians to restrict access to care for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Coloradans of color who are already most negatively impacted by abortion bans.

While Colorado might have RHEA, we know that is not enough. This year in the midterms, the Latino electorate statewide will hold accountable those legislators who did not support abortion access. And in 2024, we will go to the ballot to enshrine the right to abortion in the Colorado Constitution.

This is a sad day, but the fight isn’t over. It’s only beginning and we here in Colorado will be leading the way on abortion access, just as we did in 1967 and 1973.”

Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights Action Fund (COLOR AF) works to address the imbalance of Latinx representation in the state legislature by creating the infrastructure to identify and support community leaders, increase Latinx representation in elected office, build political influence, and to reframe the narrative around our issues.
